As a college student, there is always the question of commuting or dorming at the college you choose to study at. It’s a big decision that many young students make and for millions, they choose to dorm. Here at The City College of New York, the dorms are called The Towers and a lot of the student body currently resides there. I am frequently asked if I’m a resident of the Towers but I chose not to dorm since I live 20 minutes from campus by subway. Although I’m a commuter there are always moments where I have wondered what it was like to be part of the Tower’s community. Seeing to the fact I don’t dorm, that is why I chose the Towers as my subculture to research. I am an outsider to the subculture,but I feel that being a student here gives me some understanding as to what it may be like to be a Tower’s resident. Even though I’ an outsider, I feel confident that having inside sources as well as staff members helping me with my research will allow me to achieve my goal of understanding why students dorm and what the Towers at CCNY are like.
